The Nordkolleg Rendsburg ( Schleswig-Holstein ) is an academy for cultural education and conference center in Rendsburg in Schleswig-Holstein. It is mainly active in adult and further education , but also in the cultural life of Schleswig-Holstein.

history

The tradition of the Heimvolkshochschule Rendsburg goes back to the 19th century. Established in 1842 as a higher adult education center for the rural rural population, the Rendsburg home adult education center was founded in 1921 by Axel Henningsen and Johannes Tonnesen near the current location. The institution was able to assert itself as a traditional educational institution beyond the Second World War, because in 1945 the British military administration ordered the resumption of cultural activities. From now on, the focus was on topics that were previously neglected or even ostracized during National Socialism: new forms of art and literature, reflections on the meaning of society and learning foreign languages as a contribution to intercultural communication. This internationalization of the offer with the orientation towards Scandinavia and Northern Europe, which is still valid today, took place as early as 1959. In 1992 the Nordkolleg Rendsburg GmbH succeeded the Heimvolkshochschule Rendsburg eV.
