Norland College

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Norland College is the leading English training organization providing nanny ( english nanny ) in the areas of childhood education and care.

Establishment and training

The facility was founded in 1892 by Emily Ward . The college is located in the south-west of England in the city of Bath on the London Road , about 159 km west of central London and about 21 km south-east of Bristol . Until February 2002 the college was located in Denford Park near Hungerford in Berkshire . Training began there in 1967.

The facility provides 45 apprenticeships each year, for which there are hundreds of applications. The training includes two years of theoretical instruction and one year of practical experience in a host family with children. There are also special training courses for specific requirements.

The training takes place with modern technical equipment and includes all knowledge of child upbringing and care. Knowledge of the behavior of children, of teething problems, of bringing up children as well as necessary food preparations are conveyed.

The students wear a uniform and the motto of their badge is Love never faileth . In the host family, the student is required to represent and enforce the principles of the educational institution. If this condition is not met, the family education has to be discontinued.

There is an entry in a register for each graduate. If the graduate violates the principles of the educational institution in her professional activity, she loses the award of her diploma. This is how the college maintains its traditional reputation. A family that employs a nanny from Norland College must raise at least 30,000 euros a year for this (as of 2006).

In February 1999, a male applicant was accepted into college for the first time since 1892. In 2003 an Englishman was able to begin training for the first time.
