North Coast Inland Trail

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The North Coast Inland Trail ( NCIT ) is a project for a long-distance hiking trail that has already been implemented in several sections. It is to lead across the US state of Ohio and, if necessary, to be extended to Pennsylvania and Indiana .

The NCIT is a multi-purpose trail that allows hiking, running, cycling , inline skating and, in winter, cross-country skiing . Skateboarding, however, is not permitted.

The long-distance hiking trail project was created in 1992. Several Ohio Park Districts decided to create a series of hiking trails through Ohio that would be linked together. The project was named North Coast Inland Trail by the non-profit organization Firelands Rails to Trails, Inc. in 2000 because the route leads over large parts along an abandoned, traditional railway line.
