The North Foreland ( English for Northern Foreland ) is a headland at the northeast end of King George Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It represents the eastern boundary of the Emerald Cove .
It was named on October 16, 1819 by the British navigator William Smith , who discovered the South Shetland Islands. Smith named it after its English counterpart at the eastern end of the Isle of Thanet .
