The North River (English for "North River") is an approximately 90 km long tributary of the Labrador Sea in the north of Labrador in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador .

River course

The North River has its origin in a nameless lake at an altitude of about 480  m . It initially flows 25 km north. It then flows 35 km to the east. It takes up the runoff of Umiakovik Lake, 3.5 km south, and turns 12 km north-northeast. For the last 12 kilometers, the North River flows eastwards and finally flows into the head end of Okak Bay , a 55 km long narrow bay at the exit of which the Okak Islands lie. The catchment area of the North River covers an area of 1655 km². It is mainly tundra landscape .

Fish fauna

The arctic char occurs in the North River . At river kilometer 66 there is a 7.6 m high vertical waterfall, which makes it impossible for migratory fish to reach the upstream river system.
