North York Center is an underground subway station in Toronto . It lies on the Yonge-University line of the Toronto Subway , at the intersection of Yonge Street and Park Home Avenue / Empress Avenue. The station, which has side platforms, is used by an average of 24,220 passengers every day (2015). There are transfer options to two bus routes.

The section between York Mills and Finch had already been opened in 1974, but no station existed at this point. The then independent city of North York experienced a rapid boom thanks to the connection to the subway and began to develop the area in the middle between Sheppard Avenue and Finch Avenue into the actual city center through the targeted settlement of public facilities and high-rise office buildings . Mayor Mel Lastman convinced the Toronto Transit Commission of the need to add a new subway station. The construction work began in September 1985, whereby this had to be carried out mainly during the nightly breaks in order not to obstruct train traffic. The opening finally took place on June 18, 1987.

Both platforms are decorated with murals by Nicholas and Susana Graven. They are made of over 5,000 glazed ceramic bricks and depict abstract scenes of North York in the 19th century. Top of the North shows a mill and farmers in the 1850s, Traffic at Yonge and Sheppard the stagecoach and horse-drawn carriage traffic in the 1860s .
