Bon Accord was a whiskey distillery in Aberdeen , Scotland . The brandy produced was therefore assigned to the Highlands whiskey region . In addition to Bon Accord, there were two other nationally significant whiskey distilleries in Aberdeen, Devanha and Strathdee .

history

The distillery was founded in 1855 by the Bon Accord Distillery Company from a brewery that has been producing since 1785. Many facilities of the nearby Union Glen distillery were taken over, which ceased operations in 1853. In the decades that followed, Bon Accord became one of the largest producers of malt whiskey in Scotland. In the course of its history, the distillery survived several fires until a major fire in 1885 destroyed large parts of the building. The distillery was then rebuilt. However, the company never fully recovered from the consequences of this fire and was dissolved in 1896. A merger of the distilleries Dailuaine and Talisker took over the distillery and continued to run it under the name North of Scotland . In 1910, another major fire caused extensive property damage. Since the distillery could no longer achieve its previous market share, it was finally closed in 1913.

When Alfred Barnard visited the distillery on his major whiskey tour in 1886, it had an annual production capacity of over 300,000  gallons . There were four stills are available: Two coarse blisters ( wash stills ) with a capacity of 3,600 gallons each, and two fine blisters ( spirit stills ) with a capacity of 2,036 gallons each.
