Norwegian red cattle
Norwegian Red Cattle (Norw .: Norsk rødt fe , NRF) is a Norwegian breed of domestic cattle . The reddish to black animals with light spots represent the dominant breed of cattle in Norway and are mainly used for milk and beef production. Norwegian livestock was established as a separate breed in 1935, which was recruited from crossings of older Norwegian breeds with the Swedish red cattle and the Finnish Ayrshire cattle . Selected bulls from these two parent breeds are still used for breeding today.
The maintenance and continuation of the breeding of the Norwegian red cattle is pursued by the cattle breeders association Geno . For this purpose, herd books are kept and cattle shows are held. The herd books are summarized in a national stud book register . In these herd books all data, especially about the health and veterinary examinations of the cows, are recorded.
The semen of the Norwegian red cattle is exported to over 20 countries worldwide.
