Ayrshire cattle

Ayrshire is a breed of cattle named after the county of Ayrshire in Scotland .

The animals are medium-sized (cows approx. 132 cm withers at approx. 550 kg, bulls approx. 140 cm withers, approx. 850 kg) and brown and white, rarely black and white piebald. The white horns with black tips curved backwards are a breed characteristic .

The main breeding areas of this milk breed are Finland and Kenya , but the breed is also kept in the USA , Canada and New Zealand . In the UK, the breed is listed as Endangered by the UK Rare Breeds Survival Trust .

Production in Finland in 1986: 245,000 cows with 5,821 kg milk with 4.45% fat and 3.27% protein.

The breed was isolated in the 1960s in the races Simmental and in the 1980s in the fishing bark and into the Red Danish dairy cattle crossed.
