Notator SL

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Notator SL was a MIDI - sequencer for the Atari ST . The program was programmed by Gerhard Lengeling and Chris Adam for the company C-LAB. “Notator SL” was the version of the “Creator” program that was expanded to include notation.

Manufacturer

In 1992, Gerhard Lengeling, Chris Adam and other employees of C-LAB broke up and founded the company Emagic with the "Notator SL" , in which a successor to the "Notator SL" was developed with the Logic program . In the meantime, “Logic” is no longer offered for Atari and PC, but only for Apple operating systems.

Specialty

The main difference of "Notator" and "Creator" to then-existing as now MIDI - sequencer programs was oriented pattern arrangement system. This means that the individual MIDI recording tracks were organized in individual pattern sections which, similar to a drum computer, could be lined up in any order in the arrangement window to form a complete song.

It was only with the “Logic” product series that the arrangement window, which was based on multi-track tapes, was adopted, in which the song, with the MIDI (and audio) tracks, runs from left to right when recording or playing.
