Emergency tape
An emergency tape is an alternative broadcast content that is used by television and radio stations in order to be able to continue broadcasting a program in the event of broadcast interruptions. The interruptions can be of a technical nature (e.g. technical failure in the recording studio) or of a content-related nature (e.g. emergency in a live broadcast). The name is derived from the audio or video tapes that were initially kept ready.
With an emergency tape, short-term interruptions can be bridged ("It will go on in a moment ...") or a heavy loss of viewers or listeners can be avoided. Furthermore, in the event of an accident during a live broadcast , the privacy of those affected can be preserved. A well-known example is the accident of the betting candidate Samuel Koch on the television program “ Wetten, dass ..? “, Where music performances from previous programs ran after the accident.
