Emergency running property
Of emergency running is spoken in the technical sense, if a technical partial compliance with irregular conditions for a limited time its specific task at hand.
Examples
- Bearing shells of plain bearings that remain functional for a limited time even if the lubrication fails . Bearing materials with emergency running properties are z. B. bronze , gunmetal and PTFE . Materials with embedded graphite or molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) are also common.
- Car tires that can still be driven even if the air is lost (so-called " run-flat tires ").
- Engine oil that still fulfills its functions, although there is far too little oil in the engine and the oil is thus (mechanically and / or thermally) "overused".
