history

From 1885 to 2008 there was a cement factory in the area , founded by Karl Hürlimann. In 1996, the factory came into the possession of Holcim , which announced the closure of the Brunnen location in 2008, as investments in the amount of three times the millions were necessary due to fine dust regulations. In 2009 the Schwyzer Kantonalbank (SZKB) acquired the 72,000 square meter area. Together with the area of the former SBB warehouses immediately to the south, a total of 10.5 hectares of land was released for development.

Project

In spring 2011, the SZKB announced that a new quarter with apartments, offices, shops, restaurants and leisure activities would be built on the Holcim site in several stages. The building application finally took place at the end of October 2011.

The first stage, which began with the demolition of old buildings in 2014, includes two new commercial buildings. To this end, three existing industrial buildings are to be converted. The five buildings are arranged as a central element around Karl-Hürlimann-Platz , named after the factory founder . Apartments are only planned from the second stage. For the remaining area buildings, temporary uses in the leisure area are planned, analogous to the Sulzer area in Winterthur, for example. In addition, the river bank of the Muota is being redesigned into a recreational area.

traffic

The provisional development is to take place via Industriestrasse, later via the planned cantonal road from Brunner Bahnhofplatz to Seewen SZ . Bus and train stops are also being considered. Individual traffic is opened up from the north via Seewenstrasse, for which the bridge over the Gotthard Railway will be rebuilt and the Seewenstrasse will be connected to the Gätzlikreisel .
