Novoli (Florence)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Novoli is the name of a northwestern district of Florence .

The formerly marshy area was drained and later served agricultural purposes. With the city expansion in 1928, it became completely part of Florence. At the end of the 1930s, the district was industrialized, mainly through a large FIAT plant . In the 1950s, residential development increased, and as a result, industry was relocated and the area was tertiarized.

The churches of Chiesa di Santa Maria a Novoli , San Cristofano and San Donato in Polverosa should be mentioned as historical buildings . Today there is a fruit and vegetable wholesale market, the modern Chiesa di Santa Maria Ausiliatrice , a park, the social science center of the University of Florence and the new Palace of Justice (Florence) .
