Nuclear Physics is a journal for nuclear physics and elementary particle physics that has been published by North Holland since 1956 and, after its takeover in 1970 by Elsevier . In 1967 it split into the sub-series

  • Nuclear Physics A (Nucl. Phys. A, for nuclear physics, physics of hadrons , nuclear astrophysics ) and
  • Nuclear Physics B (Nucl. Phys. B, elementary particle physics or high energy physics, quantum field theory , but also mathematical methods, gravitation, astrophysics , cosmology, statistical mechanics).

It is one of the leading journals for nuclear and particle physics. Nuclear Physics / B , Proceedings Supplements for Conference Reports ( ISSN  2405-6014 ) have also been published since 1987 .

Léon Rosenfeld was the editor until 1974 . When it was founded in 1956, the publishing director at North Holland MD Frank had to overcome great resistance from national physics societies, but then won two well-known French physicists for the editorial board. The actual publication was initially done by WH Wimmers, a Dutch physicist who was hired for this and who came from the Dutch oil industry in Indonesia. North Holland had its first success in the field of physics in 1948 with Leon Rosenfeld's Nuclear Forces .

Nuclear Physics A had an Impact Factor of 1.525 in 2012 and was therefore ranked 11th out of 21 journals in the Science Citation Index in the Physics, Nuclear category. Nuclear Physics B's Impact Factor in 2012 was 4.327, placing the journal 9th out of 27 journals in the Physics, Particles & Fields category .
