Numerius Cestius

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Numerius Cestius was a Roman politician of the early Imperial period .

Numerius Cestius' past is in the dark, as neither his father's name nor his cognomen have been passed down. Presumably, however, he belonged to the plebeian gens Cestia , which had produced two consuls under the emperors Tiberius and Claudius in the early imperial period : Gaius Cestius Gallus , full consul in AD 35, and his son Gaius Cestius Gallus , consul suffect in AD 42 .

Cestius made a career under Emperor Nero . He succeeded him, who had held the consulate for the first time as an ordinary consul in AD 55, and became a suffect consul on March 1st.
