Meret Strothmann (born September 13, 1963 in Hamburg ) is a German ancient historian .

Strothmann studied Ancient History, Classical Philology and Philosophy at the Ruhr University in Bochum , where she obtained her master's degree in 1991 . In 1997 she completed her studies there with a doctorate , the title of the dissertation was Augustus - father of the Res publica. On the function of the three terms restitutio - saeculum - pater patriae in the Augustan Principate .

Since 1992 Strothmann was initially a research assistant at the Bochum chair of her teacher Walter Eder . She held her first courses from 1996 to 1998, and since 2002 she has been permanently active in the university teaching of the Chair of Ancient History in the Faculty of History. She is also responsible for the coordination and organization of the integrated proseminars at the University of Bochum and worked on the Blackboard e-learning program .

Her research focuses on Roman history, in particular the Roman Empire , late antiquity and the history of religion . She deals with the religious festivals in the Roman religion , with the res gestae of Augustus and the Collectio Avellana , a collection of ancient papal letters .

Strothmann wrote numerous articles for the Reallexikon der Germanischen Altertumskunde , the Lexikon für Antike Christian Literatur and especially the New Pauly , for which she mainly wrote personal articles on women of the imperial era and people of late antiquity. Together with Walter Eder and Karl-Ludwig Elvers , she was also editor of the lexicon for the area of ​​ancient history.
