Linke mainly deals with religious worldviews in antiquity, assuming that religious systems of interpretation enable substantial insights into the fundamental structures of a society. For this he was able to present a basic introductory work. In connection with this, Linke also analyzes the emergence of European republicanism in antiquity, since despite the religious foundation of the Roman and Greek communities, a political culture could emerge that was hardly restricted by sacred norms.

In the area of Roman history, Linke also places a special focus on the topics of naval armament and maritime domination as well as territorialization and legal validity. A main focus of his research is on the end of the republican era, for which he published an introductory overview, as well as on the imperial period of ancient Rome .
