Hartmut Galsterer

Hartmut Galsterer (born April 27, 1939 in Hanover ) is a German ancient historian .

Hartmut Galsterer received his doctorate from Friedrich Vittinghoff in Erlangen in 1968 . He completed his habilitation in 1974 at the University of Cologne , where he then worked as a private lecturer. In 1977 he became an associate professor in Cologne before joining the Free University of Berlin as a full professor in the same year . In 1985 he was appointed to a chair at RWTH Aachen University, in 1992 at the University of Bonn , where he retired in 2004.

Galsterer is a full member of the German Archaeological Institute and since 1999 a corresponding member of the Accademia Roveretana degli Agiati in Rovereto. His main focus is on Roman social history and the history of the Roman provinces as well as epigraphy and is co-editor of the Bonn yearbooks .
