Hans D. Meyer

Hans Dieter Meyer (born August 17, 1929 in Wuppertal ) is a German ancient historian .

Hans D. Meyer received his doctorate in 1957 from the University of Cologne with the thesis Cicero and the Reich . 1960 followed there also the habilitation with the text The foreign policy of Augustus and the Augustan poetry . In 1965 he was appointed to the Chair of Ancient History at RWTH Aachen University. He was the first to hold this professorship. In 1984 Meyer retired from his professorship prematurely for health reasons; Hartmut Galsterer succeeded him in 1985 .

Meyer initially dealt in his qualification papers with the late period of the Roman Republic and the early imperial period . Later research on the classical period of Greece followed. He also wrote various articles for the Lexicon of the Old World .
