Linda-Marie Günther

Linda-Marie Günther (born Hans , born November 26, 1952 in Lübeck ) is a German ancient historian .

Linda-Marie Günther studied history , classical archeology and Byzantine studies at the Free University in Berlin after graduating from high school . In 1976 she graduated with a master's degree and went to the University of Hamburg , where she received her doctorate in 1981. She then worked at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg , where she in 1990 habilitated . In 1991 Günther became a private lecturer in Munich and between 1992 and 1999 took over professorships in Erlangen , Berlin and Munich. In 1999 Günther became a professor at theRuhr-Universität Bochum , where she taught until her retirement in 2018. Christian Wendt was her successor .

Günther researches and works primarily on Greek history and late antiquity , with special emphasis on social and economic history and historical geography. Special research interests are the Greek polis and tyranny , the western Greeks and Carthage , the Hellenistic monarchies as well as ancient hagiography and prosopography , especially with regard to women.

Linda-Marie Günther is the chairwoman of the Ancient History Association for Europe . Her husband is the epigraphist Wolfgang Günther .
