Numismatic Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Numismatic Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences was founded on December 9, 1970 by Robert Göbl , at that time director of the Institute for Ancient Numismatics and Pre-Islamic History of Central Asia (today: Institute for Numismatics and Monetary History ) at the University of Vienna .

The Numismatic Commission, which with numismatics represents one of the most important historical basic and source sciences within the framework of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, dedicates itself accordingly - in principle without any spatial or temporal restrictions - not only to researching coinage itself, but also its monetary or financial history backgrounds.

In line with the development of numismatic research at the commission, the focus of its work is on research into the history of coins and money in ancient Austria, the Roman Empire and ancient Persia.
