Nuno Júdice (born April 29, 1949 in Mexilhoeira Grande , Portimão County , Algarve , Portugal ) is a Portuguese writer. Júdice was also a cultural official and works as a poet, critic, screenwriter, essayist and novelist.

Life

Nuno Júdice comes from a small community in the Algarve, the southernmost province of Portugal. He studied Romance studies in Lisbon and was a professor of medieval literature at the Universidade Nova there for a long time .

He also worked as a cultural official. He was cultural attaché of the Portuguese embassy in Paris from 1997 to 2004 and during the same period also president of the Instituto Camões , also in Paris. He was also the official representative of the Portuguese government for the Frankfurt Book Fair 1997, where Portugal was the main topic.

As a critic he worked for various literary magazines, such as Jornal das Letras and Expresso .

His very first book was published in 1972 and was a volume of poetry. Many more publications followed.

He has written a total of four screenplays for television. His books have also been published in Spain, Venezuela, Italy, France and the UK.

The author now lives in Lisbon.
