You need is love is a German TV show that from 1993 to 2011 by Kai plum moderated and Sundays at 19:00 in Sat.1 has been sent. In 2014 a new edition started with Wayne Carpendale .

content

Kai Pflaume brings people together by speaking to them, taking them to a mobile home , among other things , and showing them a video of a secret admirer, ex-boyfriend or other person.

People perform in the studio who want to thank their partner, find one, or ask for forgiveness. For example, the person in question sings a song live with self-composed lyrics in which they either apologize for mistakes they have made or simply praise the good time they both have together. Other surprises are, for example, a helicopter with which the ignorant person is flown up a mountain on which a huge heart has been built. There is usually a touching scene in which the partner tells the other person what is on his mind and how much she means to him. There are many other variants.

Candidates are also given the opportunity to meet long-missing parents or friends. Most of the time, these people are surprised in the studio or Kai Pflaume drives to their home. With a laptop they have brought with them, they find out how the person who has been missing for so long is doing, where he lives and why he has not contacted us. Then the person is driven to a place where this person is already waiting for him. The surprised guests in the studio are visibly informed on a large screen about the person they are looking for, who appears shortly afterwards.

History and broadcast time

The show was initially broadcast on RTL from 1993 to 1994 . From 1995 the show was shown on Sat.1 at different intervals .

On September 12, 1993, the show was broadcast for the first time by RTL. Until October 17th, the first season ran on Sundays from 7:10 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Season 2 of the show ran from February 19 to April 23, 1994 at the same time on Saturdays. Shortly thereafter, the format was discontinued until Sat.1 acquired the rights and the producer John de Mol continued the program with the same concept and the same presenter.

Only love counts ran on Sunday evening. Until December 19, 2004, the relationship show always started at 7:00 p.m. In exceptional cases, Sat.1 broadcast a special at 8:15 p.m. From February 27, 2005 to March 16, 2008, the one-hour format ran on Sundays at 7.15 p.m., which was extended by 10 minutes on the following Sunday (Easter Sunday). From then on, Sat.1 broadcast the show for 70 minutes at 7:05 p.m. From October 4, 2009, Sat.1 showed the program again from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. From March 4, 2011, the program was moved to Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This season was the last to be moderated by Kai Pflaume. The first episode on the new slot had a market share of 7.8 percent.

On March 24, 2011 it was announced that Sat.1 is canceling the show immediately due to the low audience figures. The reason for the decrease in viewers is probably the relocation to the Friday evening before, which means that the odds were even worse than those of the investigator documentary K 11, which was previously and will now be back on this broadcast slot . The two remaining episodes and the two planned best-of episodes were broadcast from July 10, 2011 on the old traditional broadcasting slot on Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2014, Sat.1 showed a new edition of Only Love Counts in Prime Time with Wayne Carpendale as the presenter. Due to the low ratings, the last episode was broadcast on December 23rd. Since February 15, 2015, the remaining episodes have been shown again on the previous broadcasting slot on Sundays at around 5:40 p.m. In contrast to the earlier version with Kai Pflaume, the show is twice as long with a running time of around two hours.

music

The title song of the show was the hit All You Need Is Love of the Beatles from the takeover by the broadcaster Sat.1 ; Nino de Angelo wrote and sang the title song of the first season on RTL .

Merchandising

A plush figure called "NUDLZ" was made especially for the program from the first letters of the program, which is very similar to a mouse. Short messages can be spoken into this figure (microphone in the nose) and listened to (button in the ear).
