A nut roast is a rich dish for which nuts and other ingredients are shaped and cooked into a roast .

Nut roast is based on nuts and a source of starch . Almost any type of nut is suitable. Legumes such as lentils can also be added. The nuts can be left whole, chopped or ground. The source of starch can also be very diverse: breadcrumbs , stale bread, flour or meal made from buckwheat , oats , barley , rye or millet . The starch is bound with vegetable broth, oil or butter, in some recipes also with egg. The spices depend a lot on the recipe. For a different texture and more flavor variations, tomatoes, cheese, fried mushrooms, onions, garlic and grated truffle can be mixed into the batter. The dough is then cooked in the oven until it is firm and a crust has formed. The finished roast is served with vegetables and sauce.
