In the district capital Giurgiu, the road branches off from Drum național 5 (European roads E70 and E85 ) to the southwest and runs parallel to the left bank of the Danube upstream via Pietroșani to Zimnicea , where it meets Drum na Drumional 51 and ends there. Its continuation up the Danube is the Drum național 51A .
The length of the road is around 60 kilometers.
