The road branches off in Râmnicu Sărat from Drum național 2 (also European route 85 ) to the east and leads via Balta Albă and further across the river Buzău and Șuțeşti to Brăila , on the eastern edge of which it crosses Drum național 2B (also European route 584 ). Now at the same time as European route 87 , it crosses the Danube by ferry , then follows the Danube arm Brațul Măcin to Măcin , where the Drum național 22D branches off to the southeast. It continues to the north, picks up the Drum național 22E coming from Galați and turns to the southeast. In Isaccea it approaches the Danube. It continues to the district capital Tulcea , where it bends sharply to the south (the city is bypassed by the short Drum național 22G ). In the village of Cataloi , the Drum național 22A branches off to the southwest. The DN22 continues over Babadag and the confluence of the Drum naţional 22D after the north of Constanta located Ovidiu where they to Drum naţional 2A (both European route E60 ) meets and ends at that.
