The Drum național 6 ( Romanian for “National Road 6”, DN6 for short ) is a national road in Romania .

course

The road begins in the capital Bucharest and runs, at the same time as European route 70 , first in a south-westerly direction via Mihăileşti (expanded to four lanes up to there) to Alexandria , turns there to west-northwest, leads via Roşiorii de Vede and Caracal (a bypass road is under construction there ) to Craiova in Little Wallachia , where the European route 574 branches off to the east, merges with the European route 79 , leads in four lanes to Filiași , where it separates again from the European route 79, and runs via Strehaia to Drobeta-Turnu Severin , where it reaches the Danube and leads on its left bank through the Iron Gate , where the Drum național 6A branches off to the Serbian side of the river via the power plant , to Orșova .

Here the national road leaves the valley of the Danube and heads north over the pass Poarta Orientala parallel to the river Timis (Timiş) to Caransebeş and on about Lugoj (Lugoj) (from there connects the short already completed section of the Autostrada A6 with the Autostrada A1 ) to Timișoara (Temeschburg) . While the European route 70 continues south from there, the DN 6 continues to the northwest and leads via Sânnicolau Mare (Groß Sankt Nikolaus) to the Romanian-Hungarian border at Cenad . On the Hungarian side it continues as 431-es főút , which meets 43-as főút after about 5 kilometers ( ).

The length of the road is 639 kilometers.
