The road begins south of Bârlad , where it branches off from Drum național 24 (also European route 581 ) to the southeast. It runs through the hill country of the Dealurile Fălciului and Bălăbăneşti and Cuca to the Drum național 26 , which it meets south of Tuluceşti .
