The road in Little Wallachia (Oltenia) begins at Drum național 56A in Hinova , from which it first leads in a south-westerly direction to Burila Mare , where Drum național 56C branches off from it, which reaches Drum național 56A again at Salcia . The DN56B leads to the Danube and to the Danube island Ostrovu Mare , at the southern end of which it crosses the river at the Eisernes Tor 2 power plant with a border crossing to Serbia that has been open since the end of 2011 .
