The road begins at the Danube ferry that runs from Orjachowo in Bulgaria across the Danube to Bechet . It runs through the city of Bechet, where it meets the drum național 54A leading to the east and the drum național 55A leading to the west . The road now runs in a northerly direction via Dobreşti , roughly parallel to the Jiu (Schil) river, to the district capital Craiova , on the southern outskirts of which it flows into Drum național 56 ( European route 79 ).
The length of the road is around 71 kilometers.
