The street begins in Galați (Galatz), where it branches off from Drum național 2B (also European route 87 ). To the north it runs over long stretches parallel to the Prut river and its tributary Chineja . South of Tulucesti of the city branches Bârlad leading Drum naţional 24D to the northwest. The DN26 continues via Măstăcani and Oancea , where the short Drum național 26A leading to Cahul in Moldova branches off to Murgeni , where it joins theDrum național 24A meets and ends at this.
