Oancea is a municipality in the Romanian district of Gala Kreisi in the historical region of West Moldova .

The municipality of Oancea with a total of 1583 inhabitants consists of the villages of Oancea with 1422 inhabitants and Slobozia Oancea, 2 kilometers south of it, with 161 inhabitants (as of January 2020).

The community lies on an area of ​​5160  hectares on the right bank of the Prut River in the east of the Galați district. The Drum național 26 runs through the villages , whose junction, the Drum național 26A, over a bridge of the Prut, which forms the border between the Republic of Moldova and Romania , continues as R 34.1 to the Moldovan city ​​of Cahul , about 7 kilometers to the east .

The district capital Galați is 57 kilometers south of Oancea.
