The Leydhecker house in Prinz-Christians-Weg 7 is a building in Darmstadt .

History and description

The Leydhecker house was built between 1902 and 1904 according to plans by the architect Friedrich Pützer . The client and namesake was Lieutenant Colonel a. D. Karl Leydhecke. The house was built on the model of English country houses with a low roof. In 1944 the building on the southern slope of the Mathildenhöhe was largely destroyed in an air raid. Then a simplified reconstruction took place. The base of the house has been preserved in the original with its rich arches and ornamental grilles on the windows. The gate system made of embossed stones, an artistically crafted gate with relief decoration , parts of the enclosure decorated with ornamental panels and the garden house on Erbacher Strasse have also been preserved. With the design of the house and the outside facilities in its small forms, the architect approached Art Nouveau .
