Insa Fooken

Insa Fooken (born December 6, 1947 in Bremen ) is a senior professor at the Interdisciplinary Aging Science department at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Life and education

Fooken grew up in Kassel and graduated from high school there. This was followed by a high school degree in Clinton (Illinois) , USA . She then studied psychology from 1967 to 1972 at the University of Bonn , where she graduated in 1972. This was followed by therapy training and activities in the field of psychological educational counseling, at the German Development Service (DED) and teaching activities in children's nursing until 1978 . From 1977 to 1980 Fooken was a research assistant at the Bonn Gerontological Longitudinal Study (BOLSA) and research assistant at the Psychological Institute of the University of Bonn in the Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology. In 1980 she was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD . From 1980 to 1992 Fooken worked as a research assistant at the University of Bonn and from 1988 had lectureships at the University of Kassel and the University of Applied Sciences for Social Work in Bern . In 1992 she became professor of psychology with a focus on developmental psychology at the University of Siegen . She has held a senior professorship in Frankfurt since 2014. Her main research interests are in the areas of “Age (es) and gender” and “Family relationships in adulthood”.

Awards

  • 1980: Max-Bürger-Preis of the German Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics for the work "Women in old age - an analysis of intra- and inter-individual differences"
  • 1988: Elisabeth Schwarzhaupt Prize (awarded by the German Society for Gerontology and Geriatrics ) for the work "Survivability - Possibilities and forms of female development in old age"

Private

Fooken has two children, born in 1982 and 1987.
