Nusstorte is a fine bakery product whose baked pastry usually consists of a Wiener mass are made with walnut or almond additive. Nut cakes made from walnuts and almonds are particularly popular in Austrian cuisine . The cake bases are either put together with an abundance of cream , powdered sugar and finely grated walnuts or with currant jam , then covered with the same cream or otherwise. Walnut halves are usually used for decorating. Various recipes were published as early as the 19th century.

Niederegger nut cake is made with hazelnuts and marzipan .
