Nyksund is a fishing village with around 15 inhabitants and up to 40 tourists on Vesterålen in Northern Norway . It is located on the northern edge of the island of Langøya and can be reached from the small town of Myre via a partly paved and partly gravel road.

The village has been abandoned several times in the past when fishermen could no longer see a sufficient basis for life. It has been revived for several years.

The townscape is characterized by the colorful fishermen's houses that squeeze into a narrow bay. Some of them are still in ruins, some have already been renovated and furnished. Nyksund has become known for its reggae and ska concerts as well as its gastronomy. In recent years the proportion of Norwegian residents has increased again.

In 1985, a research assistant to the social pedagogues at the TU Berlin, together with some students, rediscovered the place that had been abandoned at that time during a "theory-practice seminar" and began to "repair" it in order to set up an international youth meeting place . University professors negotiated on behalf of the university and a registered association with the house owners as well as with the municipality next door and managed to take over many residential buildings and the warehouses in the port for seven years - under many conditions, but rent-free. A social pedagogue lived on site throughout the summer and managed or moderated groups of supervised young people from various Western European countries. They renovated the houses in which they were allowed to live free of charge for the time of the workshops at the Nyksund workcamp . There was also a central joint cooking, political discussion and celebration.

Due to the committed life of the foreign guests, some of the Norwegian homeowners were newly motivated to look after and revitalize their property again at least in phases. To the disappointment of the project management, it was therefore not possible to extend the lease of an entire village with those responsible after 1989.

In general, the place values originality and tries to convey an authentic picture of the original way of life to the limited number of tourists. The Königinnenweg hiking route also begins in Nyksund , which splits after an initial ascent and leads along the coast for inexperienced hikers and through the mountains for experienced hikers. Both paths end in the neighboring village of Stø and can be used as a circular walk if necessary. Whale safaris are undertaken from Stø.

Nyksund on the Vesteralen has long been a deserted place for dropouts. Now the children of former residents are taking back the coastal village in Norway. "
