The ODU GmbH & Co. KG is an international supplier of connector systems, located in Muhldorf am Inn, Bavaria. The group of companies develops and manufactures connectors for the transmission of power, signals, data and media. The company employs around 2,300 people worldwide. In 2019 a turnover of 210 million euros was generated.

history

The founding of the ODU company goes back to an invention by Otto Dunkel. In 1937, inspired by a bush broom, he had the idea for a new contact: the wire spring contact . He divided the contact into lines and in this way created a constant contact resistance and the same pressure contact. Otto Dunkel applied for a patent for the “springy connector pin” and founded his own company in Berlin in 1942. In 1947 the company moved to its current headquarters in Mühldorf am Inn. In 1975, ODU Steckverbindungssysteme GmbH & Co. KG was founded there. In 1986, ODU launched the modular rectangular connector system ODU-MAC, and in 1990 the circular connector series ODU MINI-SNAP. The company has also been developing high-current connectors for electromobility since 2010. The ODU AMC circular connector system was launched in 2011 and ODU achieved sales of more than 100 million euros. Today ODU has around 2,300 employees worldwide, of which around 140 are trainees and dual students and around 95 employees work in research and development. There are currently around 1,300 employees (2019) employed in Mühldorf.

Products and connection solutions

ODU offers connection solutions for the transmission of power, signals, data and media. The product range includes circular connectors and rectangular connectors as well as miniature connectors. In addition to standard solutions, ODU also offers customer-specific plug connections. In addition, the company provides complete solutions, for example cable assembly. In 2019 the product portfolio was expanded to include a mass interconnect solution. Another division of the ODU Group is ODU surface technology, which refines surfaces in the company's own electroplating department.

Areas of application

ODU connectors are used in the following markets: in medical technology, military and security technology, electromobility, energy technology, industrial electronics as well as measurement and testing technology.

International locations

The headquarters of the group of companies is in Mühldorf am Inn. In addition, ODU has additional production sites in Sibiu / Romania, Camarillo / USA, Shanghai / China and Tijuana / Mexico. There is also an international sales network with nine sales companies in England, France, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Korea, the USA, China and Japan as well as numerous worldwide sales partners.
