history
Oklahoma Gas & Electric was founded on February 27, 1902 by Edward H. Cooke, five years before the state of Oklahoma was founded. As early as 1928, through a series of acquisitions, the company was the largest energy supplier in the state. In 1947, a series of tornadoes (Glazier – Higgins – Woodward Tornados) destroyed all of the OG&E facilities and had to be rebuilt afterwards. In 1949 they were one of the first companies to use gas turbines in combination with steam turbines to generate energy.
In 1963, the world's largest combined cycle power plant ( gas and steam) with an output of 235 megawatts was built at Horseshoe Lake Station .
During 1986, Oklahoma Gas & Electric acquired Enogex, which operates a 10,000-mile network of pipelines in Arkansas , Missouri , Oklahoma, and Texas .
In 1997, OG&E founded OGE Energy Resources, the Group's second subsidiary.
