The locomotives of the He series of the Otavi Mining and Railway Company (OMEG) were narrow-gauge locomotives with a tender with the 2'C1 '(Pacific) wheel arrangement. Due to the war , they were never used in German South West Africa .

history

The two locomotives with road numbers 31 and 32 were intended for passenger trains. They were built in Kassel in 1914 and shipped to South West Africa via the Woermann Line . Because of the British blockade of the coast there, they were diverted to Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, which was still neutral at the time.

After Brazil declared war in October 1917, the locomotives were confiscated by the Brazilian state and used by the army.

technology

The locomotives corresponded in size and - apart from the wheel arrangement - also in their structure to those of the Hd series , including the characteristic step in the circulation and the flaps that were supposed to protect the engine from sand and dust. The axles were stored in an outer frame; the trailing axle was a radial axle for the Hd. The bogie also had an outer frame. A noticeable feature was a cylindrical water treatment tank, which was arranged behind the steam dome on the boiler.

The machines had a four-axle tender, which, however, was not identical to those of the Hd series.
