Offset to rotogravure conversion

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Offset-rotogravure conversion , also known as OT conversion , is a process of printing form production in rotogravure printing . Here, printing templates (films) made for offset printing are used for the engraving of gravure cylinders .

An offset print or an analog proof is produced from the offset films for the customer's presentation , the tone and color values of which correspond to the gravure result. The customer specifies his change requests on this test print. This is followed by the offset-gravure conversion. The scanning head of the scanner of the engraving machine is set in such a way that the screened offset films are scanned integrally and converted into equal halftone values . The most important prerequisite for the OT conversion is the descreening of the originals, as otherwise a moiré would arise on the engraved gravure cylinder . The advantage of OT conversion is economical and consists in the fact that the much more complex proof in the gravure printing machine is avoided.
