Its initial purpose was to invest primarily in the stock market in information technology and medical technology companies. After the company was floated on the stock exchange in May 2000 through an IPO , it was renamed optic - optical technology investments AG one year later .

Following a public swap offer, the majority of the company became the property of Deutsche Effecten- und Wechsel-Beteiligungsgesellschaft AG in December 2002, with a 76.49% stake . Associated with this was the expansion of the company's purpose to include investments in the field of optical technologies .

A year later, in December 2003, the Lugano-based Ceren Energia SA (today: FISI SA) acquired the majority of the shares. The change of ownership was accompanied by a realignment with a focus on investments in the energy sector and the renaming to OTI Energy AG . After OTI Energy had held a minority stake of 21% in the Italian Hydro Drilling International SpA since summer 2004 , the stake was increased in May 2008 to a majority stake of 51%. At the end of 2010, OTI Energy announced the sale of its stake in Hydro Drilling International SpA and has since focused on companies that are active in the field of renewable energies, in particular hydropower plants.
