Oaksterdam is a district in downtown Oakland , California where cannabis as a medicinal product is traded and worked in a variety of ways . The word Oaksterdam is a suitcase word made up of Oakland and Amsterdam .
Cannabis is offered in a variety of inexpensive smokable and edible offerings in cafes, clubs and patient facilities. Oaksterdam is on the north end of Downtown Oakland between the Lakeside and the Financial District. It is roughly bounded by 14th Street to the southwest, Harrison Street to the southeast, 19th Street to the northeast, and Telegraph Avenue to the northwest.
One of the most important institutions in the neighborhood is Oaksterdam University , presided over by activist Richard Lee , which provides scientific support.
