Petrol dd is a Slovenian energy company with headquarters in Ljubljana and the largest company in Slovenia in terms of turnover.
history
The predecessor company Jugopetrol Ljubljana was founded in 1947 through the dissolution of Jugopetrol Beograd, which had been founded two years earlier, at that time the company only had ten petrol stations and one refinery in Maribor . In 1953 the name was changed to Trgovsko podjetje Petrol v Ljubljani . The filling station network was steadily expanded in the following years - in 1965 there were 68 stations, five years later 174 stations and in 1974 230 stations. In 1974 trading in natural gas began. In 1996 the company was converted into a joint stock company under the name Petrol, Slovenska naftna družba, dd Ljubljana , and a year later the shares were listed on the Ljubljana stock exchange . Internationalization began in 1996 with the establishment of a subsidiary in Croatia , where the first petrol stations were built in 1999. A year later, the first positions followed in Bosnia and Herzegovina , and in 2003 in Serbia .

The activities of Petrol are divided into two main business segments: Oil trading ( Oil trading ) and gas, environmental and other energy activities ( gas, environmental and other energy activities )
Oil trading
With a turnover of 2.8 billion euros, the oil business is Petrol's most important branch.
Petrol is an oil company that does not have its own production capacities (extraction, refinery), but only trades. The company is the market leader in Slovenia in both wholesale and petrol station business. Both activities were expanded to other countries in the former Yugoslavia . In 2009 Petrol had 487 filling stations, including 314 in Slovenia, 105 in Croatia, 39 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 9 in Serbia, 11 in Kosovo and 9 in Montenegro .
Gas, environment and other energy activities
In 2009, the other activities generated sales of just 0.1 billion euros. These activities include the sale of electricity (around 430,000 MWh per year) and natural gas (100 million m³ per year).
