Matthias Baron (born August 17, 1988 ) is a German soccer player who was most recently under contract with FC Vaduz in the Principality of Liechtenstein .
Career
Baron started playing football at FV Brombach and joined SV Weil as a C-youth . After completing the B-Jugend, the midfielder moved to SC Freiburg in the summer of 2005 , where he made 21 appearances in the U-19 Bundesliga in the 2006/07 season . Thrown back by a broken collarbone, he returned to SV Weil in 2007 and subsequently played in the Südbaden Association . There he developed into one of the most dangerous midfielders in the league.
FC Basel
After a friendly match between Weil and the Swiss club FC Basel , he received an offer from then head coach Thorsten Fink to move to the top Swiss club in the spring . Since the transfer took place outside the transfer window, Baron was only eligible to play in the first division for the Basler U-21 team until the summer break . In the summer of 2010 he moved up to the professional squad and received a one-year contract. He made his debut in the top Swiss division, the Axpo Super League , in the first second round match of 2011 away against FC Thun .
In the 2010/2011 season Baron became Swiss champions with FC Basel, but only played 24 minutes in the entire game round.
FC Vaduz
After winning the championship in Basel , he signed a one-year contract for the 2011/2012 season with the record-breaking Liechtenstein cup winner FC Vaduz , who at the time was playing in the second highest Swiss division, the Challenge League . He made his debut for Vaduz on July 24, 2011 in the game against St. Gallen , where he scored his first goal on August 1 in the home game against FC Winterthur . His contract was extended until the end of 2014.
From the 2013/14 season, Baron played with Vaduz in the highest Swiss football league, the Super League . Thrown back by injuries, he only made it to a few missions and had to undergo an operation in the meantime. The contract, which expired in December 2014, was not extended.
