Oaxos ( Greek  Ὄαξος , in local spelling Ϝάξος Waxos , later Axos Ἄξος ) was an ancient Greek city in central Crete that existed until Byzantine times. The city is up to one kilometer from the modern village of Axos in the municipality of Mylopotamos .

According to Herodotus , the mother of the founder of Cyrene , Battos I , comes from Oaxos.

Only a few archaeological remains of the city have survived, including two temples on the Acropolis and in the lower city.
