location

It is located in Bergen city center on the east side of Torgallmenningen street, immediately to the left of the entrance to the old bank building Torgallmenningen 2.

Design and history

The bronze sculpture was created by Arne Mæland in 1999. It depicts a homeless person lying on the ground and was created with a view to the turn of the year 2000 and was a reaction to the great celebrations at the turn of the millennium. The sculpture was victim of vandalism at Christmas 2000 and was torn from its anchoring. She was with the artist in Os until 2006. The sculpture was then filled with concrete so that it now weighs 300 kilograms. In 2006, on May 11, 2006, the funding fund GC Rieberfondene handed it over to the church city mission in Bergen and re-erected it at the old square, with the figure being fastened with four screws.

The figure is intended to show that the city houses everyone, even those who are left out. Next to the figure was a sign with the Norwegian text: Ingen er bare det du ser. Kirkens Bymisjon Bergen ( German  Nobody is exactly what you see. Church City Mission Bergen ) appropriate.
