Former Upper Oil Mill in Bad Wimpfen

The Obere Ölmühle in Bad Wimpfen in the district of Heilbronn in northern Baden-Württemberg already existed in 1500. The building, which was last renovated in 1825 and is now used by a potter, is a building worth preserving within the listed Bad Wimpfen am Berg complex .

history

The mill was mentioned in 1500 when the town of Wimpfen acquired a license that was attached to the mill . In 1605 the mill was renewed. In 1798 it was one of the city's four mills that were legally required. The mill was used at times as an oil, tobacco, tart and plaster mill, and probably also had additions for a spice and powder mill. Heinrich Nollert (1811), Friedrich Langer (1817/20) and Moses and Salomon Dreyfuß (1843) are named as millers. The building was last renovated in 1825. Today there is no more mill technology in the building, instead it is used as a home and a potter's studio.

description

The building at Neutorstrasse 15 is a single-storey plastered building with a gable roof . The building is located in the city moat directly at the old drain ( Adamsgraben ) of the Birkensee (once called Adamssee and Biersee ). The water drain at this point has a drop height of around four meters, so that the mill was safely operated by an overshot mill wheel.
