Top dead center is a German-language, electronic music project from Hamburg .
style
music
OT combines crossover dark rock, EBM and trashy light electro with authentic "German Spoken Words". While the music is based on minimal electro , the vocals are replaced by recitations of apocalyptic lyrics by the front woman Bettina Bormann .
Her label Danse Macabre markets Oberer Totpunkt as a representative of the New German Death Art , which music journalists also identify as an influencing factor. Other influences include EBM , the music of Richard Wagner and drum and bass . There is also a hip-hop track on CD Erde Ruft . In addition to electronic instruments, the band also uses acoustic instruments. Bettina Bormann has been using a Moog Theremin live since 2007, which can also be heard on some studio albums.
Texts
All OT albums are concept albums, the textual and musical implementation and design of which are dedicated to one topic. The main topics of the first two albums were press coverage and religion . For the third album Stiller Zoo , fairy tales and legends in particular served as inspiration. However, there is always a reference to reality. The album Desiderat (2014) is about longings. The album "Neuroses bloom" (2017) deals with the discomfort in culture - the breeding ground for neuroses and fears. The texts deal with human cruelty and are based on horror stories.
Surname
Top dead center denotes the highest point that the piston occupies during its up and down movement in the cylinder. It is the time when the piston changes direction. The ignition point is usually before TDC is reached and, in order to achieve good efficiency, is moved further forward as the engine speed increases.
occupation
Oberer Totpunkt began in 2006 as a duo with Bettina Bormann (vocals) and Michael Krüger (composition, drums). Oberer Totpunkt is supported live by Stefan Frost (guitar, bass) and Denis Scheither (keyboard, bass, vocals). Former members are David Nesselhauf (bass), Gunther Laudahn (guitar), Tom Wendt (guitar), Puppenformat-C (performance) and Angelus R. Bleischwitz (dance).
