Oberhof

The Oberhof is an early medieval aristocratic residence in the Beeck district of Duisburg .

history

The Oberhof was founded in the 9th century on the Beeckbach and the road to Wesel and Dinslaken. It was the royal administrative seat. Around 900 Otto the Illustrious , Duke of Saxony (880–912), acquired the Beki court from Werden Abbey . What is certain is that by 947 at the latest, the farm acquired Oberhof status over surrounding settlements and farmers on the Emscher. It was the administrative and court seat as early as the 10th century.

Gerard sculte in the hove is known as the first known court school from 1341 . In the 14th century the Oberhof was owned by the Vörde family; from about 1400 to 1550 by the Lords of Wrede . After that, the farm was so run down that the new Schulte Heinrich Hannis had new buildings built around 1559. After that the farm came to different families through marriage.

In 1659 the Oberhof was completely destroyed by fire. New buildings were not erected until six years later. The two-storey, whitewashed main building made of brick with curved and stepped gables from 1665 still stands today. A map from around 1730 also shows two rectangular buildings, which are probably to be found under today's meadow area.

The Oberhof has been owned by the Rheinische Wohnstätten GmbH housing association since 1933. The complex has been a listed building since 1991. In addition to the facility, the Beecker fair has been held every year since 1549 .

society

To promote monument protection and preservation, art and culture and intercultural dialogue in the district, the association "Netzwerk Oberhof eV" was founded, which makes the Oberhof available for events.
